Chief Investigator Jonathan Lawson has 15 plus years in Law Enforcement. During his career, Assistant Chief Lawson was employed with the Spartanburg City Police Department as a Narcotic investigator assigned to the FBI Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and a K-9 Handler. Chief Lawson has also been employed with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office for several years, where he was assigned as the supervisor with the Crime Scene unit, in which he was responsible for all Homicide and Violent crime investigations which involved crime scene documentation, evidence collection, and evidence processing. He is a member of the Coroner’s Association and the South Carolina Division of the international association for identification. Chief Lawson has obtained extensive training in wound pattern analysis, shooting incident reconstruction, marijuana analysis, crime scene investigator school, coroner’s school, medico legal death investigation, autoerotic death investigation, Crime Scene reconstruction, latent print examination and Identification, Hazmat operations, grade crossing collision investigation, Advanced Homicide Investigation and many other specialized training fields. Mr. Lawson also recived Solicitors 2019 award for Investigative Excellence, 2019 Investigator of the Year for the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office, and 2021 Deputy Coroner of the year through the South Carolina Coroner's Association. Chief Lawson is a native of Spartanburg County and graduate from Paul M. Dorman High School.
Assistant Chief Investigator Jessica Ervin has passionately held positions in Spartanburg County for over 20 years in first response, emergency care, and advanced pre and postmortem care/ investigation. Ervin has also had endeavors as a contractor for the US Government in armed security and Site Security logistics overseas. She enjoys globetrotting with her husband of 22 years, experiencing diverse cultures, and bringing her enlightenment back to her home state. When not in her full-time role as an investigator, she divulges herself in nature, gardening, family, and visiting WNC, where she was born and raised. Her family instilled hard work, independence, self-sufficiency, patriotism, and inner strength in Ervin. She was raised on the family farm, watched her blue-collar Mother and Father rise to respectable leaders by grit, and respected and value realms of her family's 5th generation sawmill heritage. Ervin is proud of her background and is confident her early platform, values, and experience will ensure families entrust a thorough and complete assignment. Assistant Chief Investigator Ervin is honored to work for Spartanburg County's patrons and provide absolute respect and care for loved ones.
Investigator Skylar Henderson grew up in Landrum, South Carolina where she graduated from Landrum High School. Investigator Henderson attended Spartanburg Methodist College where she studied Criminal Justice. Investigator Henderson enjoys playing softball and spending time with her daughter when she’s not working. Investigator Henderson is extremely blessed and honored to be a part of the Coroner’s Office; and to have the opportunity to help the families of Spartanburg County through the worst times of their life.
Investigator Jonathan Nodine is a native of Spartanburg County and graduated from Byrnes High School. Investigator Nodine has been married to his wife Cindy for 17 years where they love and adore their 3 children. Investigator Nodine has 15 years of medical experience and has held positions in Spartanburg County along with Spartanburg Medical Center. He is also ACLS certified in Infant and adult CPR and has training and work history dealing with hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials. Investigator Nodine is honored to be a part of the Spartanburg County Coroners Team and to have the opportunity to help loved ones through some of the hardest times they will face.
Jeff Grant joined the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office in June 2021. Jeff is retired from the Spartanburg Police Department as a police officer. During Jeff’s tenure with the Spartanburg Police Department, he served on the uniform patrol division, traffic division, and narcotics division. Jeff further served as a member of the FBI task force and Joint Terrorism Task Force. Jeff also served as a security office with Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for 3 ½ years. Jeff is married to his wife Lisa of 24 years and they have four daughters.
Investigator Kacie Brown grew up in Union, South Carolina where she graduated from Union High School and attended Spartanburg Methodist College on a softball and life scholarship. Investigator Brown has 20 years of experience in prosthetics and orthotics and is a BOC Certified Pedorthist. Investigator Brown joined the Spartanburg County Coroners in 2022 where she became certified in Child death investigations, conducting reenactments in child death investigations and crime scene investigations/reconstruction. Investigator Brown is looking forward to furthering her career and knowledge with Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
Stephen Lully grew up in Spartanburg and graduated from Spartanburg High School. He is a US Marine Corps Veteran. Stephen graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in criminal justice. Go VOLS! Stephen worked at the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s office for about 2 years on uniform patrol and then came to the Coroner’s Office. He has been married for almost 10 years and has a daughter. Stephen is honored to be a part of the Coroner’s Office and to be able to help loved ones through some of the hardest times of their life.
Investigator Dennis Brown joined the Spartanburg County Coroners Office in 2022, after 11 years working for Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and 6 years at Landrum Police Department, along with 27 years in the fire service. Graduated the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, He has several years of training to include Law-Enforcement, Firefighting, US Department of Homeland Security and FEMA training centers. Crime Scene Investigations and Reconstruction, Conducting Reenactments in Child Death Investigations, Child Death Investigations, Fire cause Investigations, Hazardous Materials Operations, Basic Interior Firefighter and is a (BLS) Basic Life Support instructor, Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician. Dennis grew up in Greenwood South Carolina before moving to Spartanburg County. He looks forward to several years of working with the Coroners Office.
Blake Cole joined the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office in November 2022. Blake comes to us from the fire service which he has done for 17yrs. During Blake’s tenure in the fire service, he was a Safe Kids Worldwide Car Seat Tech Instructor and a CPR First Aid instructor. He as multiple certifications form the South Carolina Fire Academy, FEMA, and NREMT. Blake is married to his wife Brittany who is a Registered Nurse for Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. They have 3 boys and 1 girl.

Investigator Michelle Lewis joined the office in 2021. She has been a Spartanburg County resident since age 2. Michelle graduated from Chapman High School, and continued her education receiving an associates degree in criminal justice. Soon after she started her law enforcement career as a Spartanburg County Detention Officer and attended the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Michelle fluently speaks German as a second language. She has been married for 11 years and has 2 children. She currently works 2 jobs which includes teaching preschool. Investigator Michelle Lewis is looking forward to furthering her career and continuing in the law enforcement career field.
Investigator Blair McKinney grew up in San Diego California before moving to the upstate in 2012. Blair graduated Riverside High School, and started with childcare, as well as respite care specializing in medically fragile cases. Investigator Blair is certified in Infant and Adult CPR. Blair volunteered with Hope Center for Children and Gibbs Cancer Center and loves to work with local animal rescues. Investigator Blair McKinney is looking forward to furthering her career and knowledge with Spartanburg county coroner' s office.
Investigator Macy Chadwick was born and raised in Spartanburg County. Investigator Chadwick graduated from Broome High School in 2010. Investigator Chadwick attended Spartanburg Community College and graduated with an Associates of Arts degree in 2015. Investigator Chadwick is currently enrolled at USC UPSTATE as a nursing student and plans to graduate in December 2022. Investigator Chadwick volunteered as a Reserve Investigator in 2015 and returned in 2021 as a part-time investigator. Investigator Chadwick is certified in Infant and Adult CPR. Investigator Chadwick has worked in the ER at Spartanburg Regional as an Emergency Service Technician since 2015. Investigator Chadwick is looking forward to furthering her career and growing as an investigator with Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
Investigator Ellen Holmes is a native of Spartanburg County. She attended Spartanburg High School and received Bachelor of Science degrees in both biology (Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC) and nursing (Queens College in Charlotte, NC). Investigator Holmes was previously an ABMDI certified investigator with the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office from March 2010 to November 2015. After a few years off, Investigator Holmes returned to the Coroner’s Office part time in August 2020. Investigator Holmes is a Registered Nurse and previously worked at the Medical University of South Carolina – Charleston, SC, Greenville Memorial Hospital – Greenville, SC, and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center – Spartanburg, SC in various areas of practice. Her primary emphasis is neonates and pediatrics however has worked in other areas including cardiac, orthopedics, and research.
Investigator Judy Yacoviello joined the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office in spring of 2021. Judy has an Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Midlands Technical College. After marrying her husband in 2001, they moved to the upstate, where they’ve enjoyed raising their 4 children.
Judy works full-time as a teacher’s assistant at a local elementary school, and PT as an Investigator for Spartanburg County.
She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, spending time outdoors, and volunteering in her local community. Investigator Yacoviello is thankful to be a part of this wonderful team of investigators, and is honored to be able to help families through their most difficult times.
Investigator Mark Link is a U.S. Army Veteran and the Vice President of an electrical business here in Spartanburg. He joined the Coroner's Office in 2015. Investigator Link volunteers his time to his community and the Coroner's Office. Mark is a member of the South Carolina Coroner's Association.
Investigator Monica Link has an Associate's Degree in Marketing/Business, Paralegal Degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She attended Greenville Technical College, USC and Converse College. Investigator Link joined the Coroner's Office in 2015. Monica is the Office Manager of the family business and volunteers for her community. She is a member of the South Carolina Coroner's Association.
