What to do after a death to settle an estate:


For information in regard to the need to open a decedent's estate, please call the Spartanburg County Probate Court at (864)596-2556. Please be aware that anyone having the original of a deceased person's will in his/her possession must file same with Probate Court within 30 days of being notified of the death (whether or not an estate needs to be administered). While Probate Court and other financial institutions will accept a pending death certificate, which may be obtained from Vital Records (for a fee), a final death certificate is needed in order to obtain life insurance proceeds.
